Our umbrella review is now officially registered in PROSPERO

March 3, 2026

The study, titled “Barriers and facilitators to building innovation readiness and research competencies in clinical health settings: An umbrella review,” has been registered in the international PROSPERO database (CRD420261299203).

Healthcare systems are becoming increasingly complex, requiring professionals not only to apply clinical knowledge but also to develop competencies in research, innovation, critical thinking, digital literacy, and interdisciplinary collaboration. Despite the recognised importance of evidence-based practice, its implementation remains inconsistent across healthcare settings.

This umbrella review aims to systematically analyse existing scientific reviews to identify organisational, professional, and system-level factors that either support or hinder the development of innovation readiness and research competencies among healthcare professionals and healthcare leaders. By synthesising existing evidence, the project seeks to provide healthcare organisations, policymakers, and academic institutions with a comprehensive overview of existing evidence supporting them in how to strengthen research culture, improve innovation adoption, and enhance evidence-based decision-making and high-quality patient care.

The review will analyse literature from major international databases including Cochrane, PubMed, , and CINAHL. The study is expected to be completed in December 2026, with results to be published internationally.
